MANY jobs where the official requirement is "College Degree" that really only require a high school education and some corporate training. All kinds of job advancements in education, for some reason, require Master's or PhD's in Education. Why? And either that rant, or something else I read, indicated that more degrees were issued in visual arts than were issued in some significant STEM field.

I learned a lot at VT that was well beyond high school, and what I'm doing generally requires higher education, so no, college isn't worthless by any means. You definitely need it for STEM fields, Education, Finance, Accounting and a number of others.

My posting history here puts me on the 'left' side of most discussions, but on this one I'll agree mostly with Maher and Dan. As a taxpayer, I don't want to pay for Jack or Judy getting degrees that aren't TRULY needed to get a job in that field. And by "Truly Needed", I mean I don't care if the job posting says "College Degree Required." Is a degree really required, or is that just a hoop we're having people jump through. Throw in a segment of the population that DOES and WILL just use college for a 4 year party, and we need to find a different path as a society for a big chunk of people who just default to attending college.
